NO-Kristiansand: church construction work
Church organ, approx. 60 organ stops. Kristiansand Cathedral (the Awarding Authority) is a venerable building from 1885 made of bricks but with roof structures made of wood and with an area of approx. 10 000 m³ including large galleries and 1 500 seats. The acoustics is in accordance with room size and form and is rather subdued with a relatively short reverberation time. It can be compared with a good concert hall (approx. 1, 5 seconds reverberation). A new organ must therefore have extensive tonal resonance, width and dynamic variations. The organ is definitively expected to be a cathedral instrument with uniqueness and approx. 60 organ stops. It should be able to reproduce – in a realistic manner – the repertory from both the late baroque epoch over to the symphonic organ literature and further on to the contemporary music period. The Awarding Authority will emphasis the organs qualities as an instrument use in service, suitable for accompaniment to the congregational singing as well as choral singing and in cooperation with orchestra. The organ shall be provided 2 keyboards, one mechanical with in and out coupling barking mechanism in relation to the instrument located on the gallery as well as one electric, mobile free-standing keyboard located on the floor level of the nave. Both keyboards shall be equipped with English/American "divisional pistons" and the European sequence system and it shall be built in accordance with BDO standards. The Awarding Authority considers making a copy of the façade to the church's original organ (August Nielsen 1885) as an organ house for the new instrument. The supplier awarded the contract must act in accordance with façade drawing made bye Tharp-Meyer (document – 18 MB – may be received on mail or fax upon requests) as well as dialogue with the church's architect and the Central Office of Historic Monuments regarding detailed solutions.
