D-Karlsruhe: general contractor to extend and restructure office areas for the Institute for Transuranium Elements (ITU)
General contractor to extend and restructure office areas for the Institute for Transuranium Elements (ITU). The Institute for Transuranium Elements intends to restructure and extend its administration buildings. It is thus seeking a suitable general contractor (GC). Considerations for the new development were prompted, on the one hand, by the shortfalls regarding the structural and domestic engineering of the existing buildings which date back to around 1960 and, on the other hand, the rise in demand for office areas which meet the current requirements of a modern working environment. Day-to-day business (D wing) will not be interrupted while the building work is being performed. Offices, conference rooms, etc. which were previously in C wing will be located in an office container outside the construction site. However, during the construction period a side entrance in D wing will serve as the main entrance to the building. This entrance must always be separated from the construction site by a hoarding. The Institute's office areas will be extended and restructured by means of a northern structural element N (approximately 42 x 38 m) and a southern structural element O (approximately 42 x 38 m, with a partial basement). These 2-storey extension elements will be adjoined to the northern and southern sides of existing C wing (38 x 38 m, with a partial basement). Before the construction work begins, C wing will be fully gutted, as part of a separate procedure, down to the load-bearing structure (reinforced-concrete floors and load-bearing beams). The gross floor area (new construction and existing structure) will amount to approximately 8 400 m2 plus a basement area of approximately 900 m2. The supporting structure of the 2-sided extension is intended to be made of reinforced-concrete cross walls. The shell construction will comprise reinforced-concrete walls in increments of 7,5 m. Flat slabs making up the ground-floor ceiling and roof panels will extend over these cross walls. The top floor will protrude from the entire front side of the building by means of a prop grid. Reinforced-concrete sheer walls on the top floor in the prop grid are envisaged for the load transfer. Individual and strip foundations are planned in the same grid, and are to be integrated into the load-bearing subsoil. The building envelope will comprise glazing with external sun protection made from metal louvres. The new and existing buildings will benefit from superior equipment in terms of building technology, for example with the construction of heating/cooling ceilings. CPV: 45210000. ...
