Birmingham Mental Health Carer Support Service. NHS Birmingham East & North, Heart of Birmingham Teaching PCT and NHS South Birmingham are seeking to commission a City Wide Mental Health Carer Support service which will also ensure that young mental health carers are supported. Commissioners are keen to receive applications from organisations or partnerships of organisations who are able to demonstrate innovation in the development of a service that extends access and makes a real difference in the lives of mental health carers, their families and the people they care for. One in every 40 people is a mental health carer. Whilst this can be a positive experience it can also compromise a person's own health and wellbeing, financial situation and life chances. The Birmingham Mental Health Carer Support Service will provide a range of help and support to carers of people with mental health conditions. Placing the carer at the centre of the service the provider will deliver tiered care which responds to the varying needs of the individuals. The service will comprise the following core components: — universal information and advice, — one to one support and advocacy, — development of self-sustaining carer-led peer support groups. In addition the service will promote the rights of carers and contribute to the engagement of carers in the commissioning, development and delivery of its own and other services. The service will be open to any person who cares for an individual with mental health needs. The service will support carers of any age including young carers under the age of 18. Interventions will be delivered flexibly and will be age-appropriate and 'time-limited' with a focus on empowering carers to build personal support networks and coping strategies. Where appropriate carer support services will work in partnership with statutory health and social care agencies to ensure that needs of carers are properly assessed and carers are enabled to access support to which they are entitled. The service will be provided to carers with needs ranging from general advice and information to extensive support. To reflect this service will operate a tiered model of support ranging from a universal information offer to one to one support. UK-Dudley: health services
City wide community development workers service. At present, NHS Birmingham East & North, Heart of Birmingham and NHS South Birmingham PCT's commission the Community Development Workers (CDW) Services from a combination of providers within the Third Sector and NHS Birmingham East and North directly. This procurement has been developed for a number of key reasons including the need for a city wide joined up approach, the end of current CDW contracts with current Third Sector Providers in NHS South Birmingham and Heart of Birmingham Primary Care Trusts and a clear political onus on tackling inequality in its widest sense. This procurement is therefore an opportunity to establish a City Wide Community Development Worker Service to ensure that there are clear programmes of work in place in our communities to address inequalities. As there is an existing service that will be tendered, staff transfers under TUPE will apply for 9.6 WTE employees whose posts currently sit within NHS Birmingham East and North and across the cohort of current Third Sector Providers against this service area.
