MT-Msida: office furniture
Supply, delivery and installation of various items of furniture for the New information communications technology (ICT) building at the University of Malta. II .1.5.1 - Overall objectives. The study of the theoretical and practical aspects of ICT straddles many of the boundaries established by the traditional Faculties in Universities. The Faculties most immediately concerned are Science and Engineering, but from a slightly longer term perspective, other Faculties are likely to be implicated. Medicine, architecture, management and education are areas that are developing branches where ICT plays a major role. This is not to say that ICT should in any sense replace the traditional subject matters but rather, that a manner of hosting ICT must be developed in such a way as to encourage strong and flexible relationships with all of these disciplines. The clear policy of the Government of Malta in terms of social betterment and quality of life improvement is to recognise ICT as one of the most substantial economic enablers whose growth has to be encouraged - especially in the light of the constantly increasing local and foreign business interest in Malta as a stable, modern and technologically viable partner. There is no doubt that the pace of ICT uptake is increasing rapidly. This is due to a number of factors: the ongoing process of globalisation, the phenomenal rate of adoption of mobile technologies and services, the realisation by small and medium-sized enterprises that investment in ICT is necessary for effective competition. In fact in the past few years, several SMEs operating in the ICT sector with an international clientele have established roots here, such as Crimson Wing, ccBill, Hob Software, 6pm.com, Uniblue, Ixaris. Moreover Government has just set up a number of strategic partnerships with some of the larger players including Cisco, Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Sun Microsystems etc. Malta's south-bordering, and at the same time, central Mediterranean, location, together with a stable and reactive political structure, and a technologically proficient workforce, are proving a magnet for international ventures. The number of high-profile partners, with internationally renowned track-records and brilliant research and development (R&D) experience, showing concrete interest in multifaceted partnerships with the University of Malta is always increasing. The need for closer, more relevant and effective collaboration with industrial partners is in line with both Maltese and EU directives targeted at the strengthening of R&D procedure and structure. With the introduction of the newly-formed Faculty of ICT, there is now a suitable platform for the better integration of the current five ICT departments as well as the refinement and evolution of the products and services being produced and clearly defined and dedicated contact point for external collaboration initiatives. Based on the above scenario, the University of Malta is currently constructing the building that will eventually house and physically represent the Faculty of ICT thus enabling the future growth and diversification of ICT in Malta, and the implementation of the Faculty's ideas and collaboration efforts within the real world - in particular within a forward-looking Maltese socio-economic landscape. II.1.5.2 - Specific objectives The purpose of this contract is to procure the required furniture, fittings and other amenities for the new ICT building, currently under construction, so that the Building is rendered operational for the benefit of both staff and students. CPV: 39130000, 39112000, 39121100, 39121200, 39122100, 30195910. ...
