Evaluation of Farmers Field School Approach in Bangladesh. Denmark has supported the Agricultural sector in Bangladesh for three decades. Presently, the second phase of the Agriculture Sector Programme Support II (ASPS II) is under implementation. The ASPS II comprises three components: 1) agricultural extension, 2) regional fisheries and livestock development, and, 3) rural roads and market access. The second phase was initiated in 2006 and has been extended to June 2013. It is expected that the present phase of the programme will be followed up by a third phase. The Farmers Field School approach is an important element in implementation of the programme. Initially, the approach was used for training relating to crop production, but is increasingly used in the programme for other agriculture and aquaculture activities. Nutrition education, especially as it relates to homestead activities such as vegetable and fruit production and home consumption of animal products, is also included in the concept. The overall budget of ASPS II is 610 000 000 DKK of which 531 000 000 DKK is Danida contribution. The estimated budget allocation for FFS related activities during ASPS II amounts 93,200 000 DKK, not including international and national adviser support and capital investment. The objective of the evaluation is to analyse and to document - in a gender perspective - the results and the lessons learned from using the Farmers Field School approach in the ASPS II in Bangladesh. The evaluation will ensure documentation on lessons learned and provide inputs for preparation of the third phase of the programme with respect to how the Farmers Field School approach contributes to increased income and food security at household level and women's involvement in development.
