UK-Blyth: hydraulic installations
High pressure unit. Narec is a national centre for the UK dedicated to accelerating the deployment and grid integration of renewable energy and low carbon generation technologies, utilising wind, wave, tidal, solar PV and thermal power. We work with blue chip companies, SME's, start-ups and University spin-outs to commercialise technologies, which generate electricity and heat; can be deployed into the electrical network; or form part or all of a distributed energy system. The building. The national blade testing facility project aims to develop a large scale testing facility; utilising and expanding on technology developed by Narec over a number of years. The facility will form part of the energy and innovation connector and will be located at Narec's site in Blyth, Northumberland. The project will enhance Narec's existing blade testing capabilities by providing a facility that will test wind turbine blades up to 100 metres in length. The project will provide an open access facility for blade developers to test and prove designs and components onshore. Improving their efficiency and reliability before commiting to costly and high risk testing and demonstration offshore. The national blade testing facility forms part of a broader national offshore wind innovation asset which is being driven by investment from One North East and strategic investment fund. The test facility will be capable of testing a range of baldes from 40 metres up to 100 metres in length. The test hub will have the capacity to perform ultimate type testing on 80 metre and proof type testing on 100 metre blades in an enclosed environment. The contract. The contract is to design, manufacture and install a hydraulic system to the requirements below: The blades will be mounted horizontally on a concrete hub at one end of the facility. The hub will allow the blades to be positioned in 3 fixed locations for either static or fatigue testing. The blade will always be locked off at the lowest practicable level to reduce the amount of working at height. A static test applies the maximum load a wind turbine blade is predicted to experience during its operational life in a controlled test environment. The test blade is secured to the test hub, a large reinforced structure and prepared for testing by the application of strain guages. Customer specified load introduction points are prepared and attached to the blade and the winching sytem is arranged in order to apply the predetermined loads during static test. The facility requires an hydraulic power unit to drive the following devices. 1. A system to statically test the blades. The blades will be bent horizontally across the test hall by using cables attached to the blade at discrete points along the blade's length. These cables will be pulled by a winching system which may be hydraulically driven. 2. A fatigue testing system. During a fatigue test force is applied to the blade via a resonantly driven mass which is attached to the blade. This system is known as the compact resonant mass system (CRM) and will be hydraulically driven. 3. A slew drive/locking system. A static test requires that a blade is tested through 4 different orientations. The slew drive will be used to rotate the blade axially on the test hub to the desired orientation via a hydraulic motor. Once in position a locking system will be engaged to prevent rotation during the test period. This locking system will also be hydraullically driven. The hydraulic system will be designed to supply and distribute hydraulic power to the systems in the facility. The system will consist of: — A hydraulic power unit's (HPU), — A distribution system e.g. a hydraulic ring circuit, — A power-take off interface, — A control system specific to the blade fatigue test. The HPU is to provide as a minimum the following hydraluic power supply: — Pressure 280 bar, — Flow rate 1200 litres/minute. Once designed the hydraulic system will be installed and fully commissioned in the blade test facility 2. Installations to include. — Mounting of HPU in the desired location, — Connection of all services to the HPU, — Fully filling the oil reservoir, — Installation and support of all pipe work in a good order, — Flushing of all system components, — Pressure checking the system, — Leak checking the system, — Installation of fatigue test control system. CPV: 43328000, 43328100, 09211600, 09211610, 38542000, 42141400, 42142100. ...
