Data Storage Capacity Expansion Requirement. The Bank of England is seeking to purchase a Storage Area Network (SAN) storage device(s) to facilitate its storage requirements for the next 5 years, incorporating growth and changing requirements. Headline requirements are: 1. A phased approach to replace the existing storage infrastructure and expand the new storage infrastructure over the next two to three years. The new system will coexist with the existing system in the interim period. 2. Design the storage architecture and life cycle based on 5 years requirement (with succession plan) and supply an initial Enterprise class storage system during September 2011 as a building block to expand the storage requirements in a block type (possible function based or federated), structured and planned approach. The design should consider the potential of adding a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure at some point capable of running 3 500 desktops catering for no performance degradation. 3. The system will be capable of expanding into a large scale Enterprise solution that is able to be expanded quickly with no "fork lift upgrades" or swap out of devices. The solution will be able to upgrade without labour intensive data migration and will be managed using one management utility. 4. The solution will be fully resilient with full component redundancy ensuring any component failure will not result in performance degradation. Full data protection will be required at synchronous replication level. 5. The proposed solution will incorporate a 5 years supply and maintenance agreement on a premium response level 24 x 7 with a 2 hour on site response time. Storage capacity on demand is required fully inclusive of any associated costs e.g. licensing. The capacity on demand equipment to be provided on a non-financed basis. 6. The storage solution will be able to support the following operating systems:a. Microsoft Windows 2003, 2008b. HP-Unix 11.11 onwardsc. Redhat Linux 5-xd. Alpha VMS 8.3e. AIX 5.3And boot from SAN.7. The solution will be able to be run with a CISCO MDS SAN network and run VMware 3.5 onwards. The solution will be required to be supported by Commvault Simpana backup software. 8. The proposed solution will be able to demonstrate strategic partnerships with other vendors enabling adaption of the system for automated self contained provisioning on demand utilising virtual technology should we choose to offer that service. 9. The preferred bidder will be required to include migration proposals to minimise business impact, risk and allow migration as a background task. 10. The storage requirements are anticipated to initially be 70TBs in a usable configuration replicated (therefore 140 TB over two sites in RAID configurations) expanding to 550 usable TB over 5 years with possible expansion to 900 usable TB or more. Capacity on Demand allocation should be sufficient to cater for our growth rates with minimal disruption for adding additional physical capacity when required. CPV: 72000000. ...
