The Department for International Development (DFID)seeks service providers for several research programmes. The purpose of the programmes is to generate new policy-relevant knowledge that will help DFID and the wider development community to eradicate world poverty. It is expected that contracts will be awarded for management of 4 research programme consortia (RPC) on the themes of "effective" and "fragile" states, and on taxation. The RPCs will work closely together, recognising the importance and inter-connection between these research efforts. A separate notice will be published for each theme. UK-Glasgow: pharmaceutical products
UK - Glasgow - commissioning of a radiopharmaceutical production unit. The PET radiopharmaceutical production unit (RPU) located at the west of Scotland PET-CT Centre, at Gartnavel General Hospital, is located within the new Tom Wheldon Building. It comprises. — a 16.5 MeV medical cyclotron contained within a 2 meter concrete walled vault, — a "clean room" facility that comprises several hot cells within which automated synthesis and dispensing equipment is housed, — a quality control laboratory that has a range of equipment necessary to undertake the battery of tests following routine batch production of PET radiopharmaceuticals – initially, 18F-Fluodoexyglucose [FDG]. The RPU has been developed to the stage where it has been demonstrated that FDG can be produced. The health boards now seeks to work with an experienced contractor to put in place a "specials license" for the production of FDG with MHRA sign-off. This should be delivered within a period of 6 months from the date of commencement. The Board will employ staff to take the subsequent running of the PRU and the contractor will be expected to train the staff to the required level of competence to sustain the production and license. The purpose of the programme is to support local and global efforts to slow or halt the spread of artemisinin resistant malaria. The programme will be implemented working in close consultation with national malaria programmes in South East Asia, particularly those in Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand.
