The Department for International Development (DFID) seeks service providers for several research programmes. The purpose of the programmes is to generate new policy-relevant knowledge that will help DFID and the wider development community to eradicate world poverty. It is expected that contracts will be awarded for management of 4 research programme consortia (RPC) on the themes of "effective" and "fragile" states, and on taxation. The RPCs will work closely together, recognising the importance and inter-connection between these research efforts. A separate notice will be published for each theme. The Department For International Development (DFID) has recently instituted a global programme of systematic reviews in development to help improve the evidence base for development practice and poverty reduction. Building capacity in South Asia to undertake systematic reviews has been identified as a key intervention in the global programme. Key sectors which have been identified to undertake systematic reviews include health, environment, education, governance, social development and policy, economics, climate change, HIV-AIDS, nutrition and social inclusion. DFID is seeking to appoint a service provider with demonstrable experience and expertise in undertaking systematic reviews in at least one of the sectors identified to develop a programme of capacity building support in systematic review techniques in key institutions in South Asia. WasteDataFlow (WDF) is a quarterly survey of local authority waste management and recycling activity in the UK, collecting data online into a database via a website. It is jointly owned by Defra, Welsh Assembly Government, Northern Ireland Environment Agency and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, with Defra the major partner taking responsibility for coordinating this project at the UK level. The contract will cover the overall administration and operation of WasteDataFlow for the UK data collection and in addition the validation of data for England local authorities. The project entails on-going management of the system, provision of training and helpline for users and system improvements. All aspects of data collection for England is also covered. A key use of the data is statutory monitoring of local authorities waste management by the Environment Agency under the landfill allowance trading scheme.
