Supply of Ultrasonic Flaw Detectors. Aircraft equipment. The Ministry of Defence has a requirement to replace approximately 90 Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) Ultrasonic Flaw Detectors, with an option to purchase up to an additional 30 units over the next 5 years. The equipment will be used in a Tri-Service environment for Non-destructive Inspection techniques on in-service aircraft structures and components for the detection and quantification of fault indications. Brief requirements are: (a) Systems shall be hand-portable, lightweight (easily manoeuvred by one person), robust and suitable for use in aircraft maintenance environments; (b) Systems shall be capable of carrying out standard A-scan inspections and shall be fully compatible with current in-service ultrasonic probes (compression & shear) with a typical frequency range of 500 kHz – 20 MHz); (c) Systems shall provide a battery operated equipment that is mains re-chargeable and is capable of operating with 110v to 220v (mains electrical systems); (d) Systems shall be compliant with EN BS 12668-1(or equivalent), current EEC directives, UK regulations and ISO standards relating to portable electrical test equipment. Systems shall also be compliant with relevant sections of Defence Standard 59-411 Part 1 Electromagnetic Compatibility (or equivalent); (e) The equipment must be easy to operate and the contractor is to provide all training material to enable the Authority to train MoD personnel to operate the equipment. The MPA is entering into this procurement to establish a contract with a suitably capable supplier for the hire of temporary facilities for the storage of firearms, munitions and specialist breaching equipment plus an area for officers to load and unload their weapons safely. This requirement ("the Temporary Armouries or TAs") is to support operations during the olympic and paralympic games. The successful supplier shall build and lease the TAs to the MPA for the period that they are operationally required. It is envisaged that the TAs will be supplied during May/June 2012 for and the lease period shall begin from 16 July and end on 14.9.2012 ("the lease period").
