The haematological malignancy diagnostic links (HMDL) service based at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) delivers centralized diagnostic pathology service for patients with haematological malignancies across Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland. This region covers approximately 1 600 000 population with an anticipated 3 500-4 000 diagnostic events per year. Each diagnosis derives from the results of a number of tests performed within different laboratories located predominantly within UHL and including histopathology, haematology, immunology, cytogenetics and molecular. Initial reporting of a limited number of specimens also occurs at the outlying Kettering General (KGH) and Northampton General (NGH) Hospitals. UHL are looking to procure an integrated, web based, IT system that provides a comprehensive database, allows real-time sample tracking and provides an efficient solution for the generation of an integrated pathology report for samples with suspected haematological malignancy. This report must display diagnostic information from each of the testing laboratories required to make the final diagnosis and in doing so facilitate compliance with the NICE IOG diagnostic requirements on haematological cancers. The final report should be made available in a format that can be integrated with local reporting systems. The system must be able to be tailored to meet local needs, customizable by the Trust's staff and interfaced to other systems within the Trust. The system must comply with connecting for health connectivity to the spine and for connection to the NHS number allocation service. The system must support multiple identifiers for a single patient. It should also employ a fully open architecture and comply with the UHL integration framework (available on request).
