Each gantry supports four motorised stirrers, associated equipment and electrical cabling. The gantries are in a sound but corroded state and the refurbishment required will involve scaffolding, shotblasting, welding repairs and painting. The company selected to carry out the work will also be required to supply and fit up to eight lengths of walkway grillage with an anti-slip surface. Although it is not a requirement that personnel carrying out the work are classified workers the work is to be carried out in a radiologically controlled area therefore companies must have the ability to provide supervisors who have experience of working on a nuclear site. It is proposed that a private suite of rooms be dedicated to privately funded care and could be configured to provide outpatient, consulting and minor treatment suites. It will also have its own reception area together with its own identity and will be ring fenced from other NHS resources, to enable the PPU to achieve maximum contribution to the Trust finances. There will be a single operating theatre as well as additional operating sessions to ensure that the PPU can maximise surgical throughput.
