UK-Edinburgh: refurbishment work
Extension & refurbishment works. RoS are now looking to enter into a building contract and engage a contractor to execute a refurbishment and extension to Meadowbank House. The proposals involve the removal of the existing external concrete entrance platt structure, and the creation of a new extension which will house a Public and Staff entrance and reception which will be raised up a level to provide a better connection to London Road. This will give the building a civic presence, making it more visible to the public and in keeping with the client's desire to increase awareness of Registers of Scotland. Critically the extension will provide additional office space and associated accommodation, which will be created within the extension and those areas which will be integrated into the design over 4 floor levels between lower ground and second floor levels. Internally this expansion will allow the creation of new 'front of house' reception, meeting and conference rooms, informal breakout and waiting spaces and re-organise the building to incorporate a Customer Servive Centre. This will be also achieved by relocating the canteen to the 1st Floor East Wing, and also providing additional staff facilities such as a cyclist's changing facility and toilets. In addition to the new extension, a basic accommodation refurbishment will be undertaken over the majority of the existing office floors involving the replacement of office ceilings and lighting, carpets and floor finishes together with redecoration. The building will remain operational whilst the extension and refurbishment is completed. A series of temporary internal staff moves / decants will be undertaken to facilitate the works.
