UK-Hengoed: bus shelters
Design, build, deliver and installation of bus shelters at Bargoed. A WAG Transport Grant and WEFO Convergence funding has helped fund the development of a new bus station at the northern part of Bargoed town centre. As part of this contract a single supplier has been sought to design, build, deliver and install the bus shelter product. The single supplier has met all of these requirements and will not look to sub contract any part or element of this contract to a third party. The successful supplier under this contract will be named in a larger main contract as the sole supplier of the bus shelters to the bargoed scheme. Consultants were commissioned to design the new bus station so it acts not only as an efficient interchange facility but also as a northern entrance feature to the town. The successful supplier has provided the client with a design solution that is close in nature to those presented by the consultants. Concept/preliminary designs presented by the consultants have supplied a clean, modern and functional structure that sits comfortably next to the proposed new retail development and existing railway station. The clean, modern design has been met with favour from the client team, the design can be built economically using a palette of readily available parts (that can be accessed easily from the supplier) to ensure its longevity. The supplier has demonstrated that the product will use quality materials, which will ensure that the bus shelter is both visually attractive but is also robust with a design life in excess of 25 years. The location for the product is in a particularly aggressive environment. The vulnerability of the structure is further exacerbated by the proximity of the sloping path located directly behind the location of the shelters. The client has been provided with a design which uses standard readily available components in a cost effective manner. The product will sit on a recently installed footprint for the wider bus station, which includes a ramped access behind the shelters up to the town centre. Companies were required to express an interest in receiving a pre qualification questionnaire at the first stage of the procurement process. Caerphilly County Borough applied selection criteria to the pre qualification questionnaire, which then determined which successful supplier(s) were invited to tender. The weightings attached to the various sections were contained within the pre qualification questionnaire and following the evaluation process, a shortlist of providers were invited to tender for this arrangement.
