Blackfen School is a popular and successful secondary school, and has 1 367 students on roll including a mixed sixth form of 325 students. The governing body is looking to extend the main building facing on to Blackfen Road and provide a new community performance space incorporating teaching areas, and to extend and enhance the Special Education Needs (SEN) provision for Visually Impaired students. The flexibility of space created will provide dance, drama and music and improve the space for teaching, learning and performance. Applications are invited from multi-disciplinary consultants who can provide all consultancy services to take these schemes through to completion, adopting the methodologies of current Building Bulletins for schools including DCSF Building Bulletins 98 (Briefing Frameworks for Secondary School projects), Building Bulletin 102 (Designing for disabled children and children with special educational needs, Guidance for mainstream and special schools), Building Bulletin 87 (Guidelines for Environmental Design in Schools) and Building Bulletin 101 (Regulations Standards Design Guidance Ventilation of School Buildings). Tenders will be invited on the basis of a fixed percentage of the building contract value. It is anticipated that this value will be 2 000 000 GBP. The process will be split into 3 phases, as follows: — Phase 1 - RIBA Stages A to D - scheme appraisal through to submission of detailed planning, — Phase 2 - RIBA stages E to H - detailed proposals through to tender action, — Phase 3 - RIBA stages J through to L - mobilisation through to "end of defects" period. Wyndhurst Farm management. Wyndhurst is the University of Bristol's farm situated at Lower Langford, North Somerset; it provides a platform for practical teaching of the BVSc Veterinary Science programme and for research into farm animal welfare and production disease. Wyndhurst comprises 265 acres of pastureland with approximately 115 dairy cows, 200 breeding ewes and associated buildings and machinery. In its recent inspection of the Farm, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons criticized various aspects of the farm which lead to the University commissioning a management review of the farm. The Review body recommended that the University should engage a professional farming organisation to manage the farm. The University has been through a tender process to select an appropriate farming management enterprise to manage Wyndhurst Farm so that it provides a model farm to meet the University's objectives in teaching and research.
