UK-Blyth: electrical engineering installation works
Narec - electrical substation. Narec is seeking a contractor to undertake the design, supply, installation and commissioning of a 99MVA onshore electrical substation building and equipment, cable transition pit structure and associated onshore cabling works. 3 or 4 XLPE offshore subsea export cables will terminate at the onshore cable transition pit at a voltage of 33kV, although one of these cables may be designed to operate at higher voltages of up to 66kV. Onshore power cables will then connect to the 33kV/66kV onshore substation, at times possibly requiring the use of directional drilling although as the cable route is yet to be finalised, the location and extent of this requirement is as yet unknown. It is envisaged that full redundancy at the substation will not be provided, and options such as two 40/60MVA transformers or a single 100MVA transformer are to be considered. It is currently envisaged that the supply of some of the electrical equipment will be designed and ordered well in advance of any substation and/or cabling construction works. Consideration will also need to be made for a communications infrastructure to enable optical fibre connections from the wind turbine generators to be connected to an shore infrastructure. It is likely that some kind of reactive compensation will be required and potentially also harmonic filters to meet the requirements of the grid connection agreement. NB: The 66kV connection to the distribution network does not form part of this contract; however the principal contractor will be responsible for ensuring a successful interface between the 66kV circuit breaker installed by NEDL (the DNO) and the Electrical Substation. An application for a non-firm 66kV connection, consisting of a single 100MVA cable, has been submitted to NEDL in order to connect to the Blyth 66kV grid supply point. Therefore these onshore works will extend from the cable transition pit to connection to the 66kV circuit breaker supplied by NEDL.
