UK-Rochdale: construction work for buildings relating to leisure, sports, culture, lodging and restaurants
Central Leisure. The site is located adjacent to the north of the River Roch and currently comprises of a mixture of land uses. These are a leisure centre in the northwest; a disused council depot in the centre covering the majority of the site, a waste transfer station (WTS) in the south and HMR acquired land, east of the site at Nile Street. The existing centre is over 70 years old and whilst it continues to provide an extensive range of swimming, health and fitness opportunities for a substantial customer base, it is considered to be no longer fit for purpose in the context of current day industry standards and changing customer expectations. The outdated design and layout of the facilities and plant also create high running costs. This project is to develop the Entwistle Road site by providing a new fit for purpose leisure facility, whilst making best use of the land and opportunities available. The new leisure facility will include a 25m swimming pool, changing village, gym, sports hall and community facilities. The project will be for the design and construction of the facility with associated external works. The contract will be awarded on a design and build basis, with the building layout design already agreed. Outline planning permission will be sought prior to award of contract.
