Bikeability Cumbria. Cumbria County Council has bid successfully for Bikeability (or National Standards) funding since it first became available 5 years ago. On average we train around 3 500 young people to Bikeability Levels 1 & 2 each year. We supplement these numbers with a parallel volunteer instructor scheme which results in a high level of provision for Year Groups 5, 6 and 7. Cumbria has just been given notice that it will receive further funding to train at least 3 500 young people to Levels 1 & 2 in financial year 2012-13, plus another amount of funding to train around 200 young people to Level 3. DfT have told Cumbria that if the next financial year`s training is successful, Cumbria County Council will progress to the next year`s award of a 3 year funding scheme (similarly, the second and third years).
