Call for concept notes: "Reducing food losses through post-harvest management". The SDC Global Programme Food Security (GPFS) is identifying new innovative projects and initiatives that fit into theme "Reducing food losses through post-harvest management" and are within its strategic framework 2010-2015. A more detailed description on the desired thematic orientation of the proposals is given by the bidding document "Thematic orientation of proposals". Up to two proposals will be considered for funding depending on the budgets and quality of the proposed concept notes. The concept notes for project proposlas have to fulfil the following criteria ("must" criteria): a) clear statement of core issue and entry point of the GPFS strategy 2010-2015 into which the project proposal fits; b) proposal is relevant at global level or is implemented in a context that allows for testing, replication, up scaling and/or mainstreaming at regional or global level with tangible results in the next 5 years; c) the budget should indicatively range between 400 000 CHF and 700 000 CHF per year; d) duration of the intervention max 2 phases of up to 3 years each; e) synergies and complementarities to existing SDC financed programmes are welcome; f) contributions to projects and initiatives together with other donors and/or contributions to ongoing projects are eligible and encouraged and should underline SDC's added value; g) the call is for development projects that fit the conditions outlined. The submission of pure research projects is discouraged. The concept notes for project proposals shall have the following content: a) maximum 4 pages (please no annexes or links to further documentation); b) description of the project/initiative with working hypothesis and expected results to be achieved within 3 to 5 years; c) description of expertise/capacity and the institution's network in the thematic field of the project proposal; d) description of direct and indirect partners and beneficiaries; e) assessment indicating opportunities and risks; f) budget specifying personnel, material, travelling (transport, board and lodging), and other costs Next steps: 4.5.2012: Deadline for submission of concept notes by email to gpfs@deza.admin.ch 15.5.2012: Notification of GPFS staff to the authors if the concept note has been selected for further appraisal 24.5.2012: Reserve this date! In case of similar evaluation results the authors of max. 3 concept notes present their project to a selection committee at SDC in Bern (the same selection criteria as for the concept notes apply) From June 2012: Development of a full project document to be considered for funding by SDC subject to approval by SDC's Operational Committee.
