A study comparing systems restraining bovine animals by inversion or other unnatural position with systems maintaining animals in the upright position taking into account the welfare aspects as well as the socio-economic implications. The purpose of the contract is to collect all the relevant information to prepare a report foreseen in Article 27(2) of Regulation (EC) No 1099/2009 on the protection of animals at the time of killing stating that the Commission shall submit to the European Parliament and the Council a report on systems restraining bovine animals by inversion or any unnatural position. This report shall be based on the results of a scientific study comparing these systems to the ones maintaining bovines in the upright position and shall take into account the animal welfare aspects as well as the socio-economic implications, including their acceptability by the religious communities and the safety of operators.
