Procurement Services Group has been commissioned to act on behalf of the Council for the tendering and contracting for Data and Voice Network Cabling. Introduction to the Requirement Over the last six years the Council has invested substantial amounts of time and money in upgrading its computer networks and infrastructure. This is an ongoing process. This document sets out the requirement for provision of voice and data cabling on a call off basis for the Council's properties and, where appropriate, the removal of out of date networks within Council properties. Included within the Agreement is the provision of network design and consultancy and the provision of some electrical wiring where this is associated with data and voice cabling works. At present the majority of Data and Voice Cabling will consist of Cat5e UTP cabling with single-mode, multi-mode fibre cabling between cabinets and buildings. Voice cabling is a mixture of traditional twisted pair cabling, Cat5e UTP and multicore cables. In the newest buildings the Council has recently started to install Cat6 Cabling. The successful tenderer must have a proven track record of designing and installing CAT6 cabling systems.Voice and data networks are normally integrated and where this is the case, the Council will require multi-core voice cables to be installed between incoming voice distribution point and patching cabinets. This will only be required in the short term as the Council is in the process of procuring a Unified Communications solution, which will bring a converged network.
