The new 3rd generation storage ring PETRA III at DESY in Hamburg provides highly-brilliant synchrotron radiation at high energies. Beamline P02.1 will be dedicated to high resolution powder diffraction using fixed energy x-rays of 60 keV (0.207 Å in wavelength). At this energy, the sequence of reflections in the corresponding powder diffraction patterns is very compact, i. e. a scattering angle interval of 60° covers a q range of 30 Å 1. Hence, the accuracy and mechanical precision of the diffractometer have to meet very high demands in order to obtain excellent angular resolution.
