UK-London: medical analysis services
European Union (EU) Dementia Strategy Development. The Work is being commissioned as part of a European Union initiative on dementia known as the "Alcove" project. The issue of providing care for people with dementia is one which has been rising up the political agenda across Europe in the same way that this has occurred in the UK in recent years. This increasing attention within individual member states has also been reflected within the European Commission itself, and in July 2009 the Commission issued a formal communication to the Council and the European Parliament on a European initiative on Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. This committed the Commission to use its different programmes (including Health and Disability) in an integrated way, with the Commission supporting member states in addressing the issue of dementia. The DH require a supplier to compare national recommendations for the diagnosis of dementia in order to access a common definition with associated operational criteria; and to evaluate diagnostic systems in EU member states in order to formulate recommendations for improving early diagnosis, both in ambulatory and in nursing home settings. At present it is estimated that only 40 % of people with dementia in England ever receive a formal diagnosis. One of the key recommendations of the National Dementia Strategy, fully accepted by the Coalition Government, is to ensure that all people with dementia receive a diagnosis in order to benefit from appropriate care and treatment. A range of measures have already been undertaken by the Government designed to improve diagnosis levels, including public awareness campaigns. The same issues pertain throughout the rest of Europe, so the benefits of a comparative study of the effectiveness of diagnostic systems throughout member states will be of huge value to all. The services required are Part B services and the procurement will be conducted accordingly. CPV: 85148000, 85100000. ...
