GR-Athens: telecommunications services
HP-SEE. Connectivity elements. The HP-SEE project, that will be funded by the European Commission, intends on bridging the digital divide that exists between the South Caucasus countries and Europe by establishing a regional research and education network in the South Caucasus and connecting it to GÉANT3. The object of the tender is to procure international connectivity elements between the following beneficiary countries: — Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia and between these and one or more major GÉANT Points of Presence (PoPs) or — NRENs already connected to GÉANT in this area and thus to the Pan-European Research and Education Network. The major GÉANT PoPs in the region and connected NRENs are located in Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece. Connectivity to other GÉANT PoPs will also be considered. Capacities are expected to be in the range of 34Mbps-622Mbps and will be procured as whole end to end services, not as "half circuits". SDH or other terrestrial based technologies will be considered. The connectivity elements will be used to transport internet traffic solely for research, educational purposes and other non-commercial purposes. The topology will be developed in the light of the results of the procurement. Provision of space for housing network equipment may be also required in some locations. The initial phase of the project is expected to be between 12 and 18 months service.
