The Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust is advertising for the provision for the supply, dispensing and home delivery of pharmaceuticals (that do not require aseptic reconstitution by the contractor) service to patients. Development of an automated electrowetting based droplet actuation system. Research and experimental development services. Research laboratory services. DSTL wishes to demonstrate whether the droplet actuation and surface cleaning part of the system described as published in Jonsson-Niedziolka 1 ka et al Lab Chip, 2011,11,490-496, can be automated to a standard so that it could be repeatedly operated by a user with minimal training. The system used an electrowetting-on-dielectric (EWOD) actuated droplet to remove previously collected aerosol from a hydrophobic or superhydrophobic surface The final system should be a laboratory bench breadboard prototype and should include all components required apart from external power. The supplier will be required to supply 100 superhydrophobic surfaces for use when testing the system using the method of production as described in Jonsson-Niedziolka 1 ka et al Lab Chip, 2011,11,490-496. The system will be required to undergo testing, from sub-process demonstrations to cleaning efficiency test using biological aerosol (the bio-aerosol testing will take place at DSTL). The efficiency testing of the complete system is expected to begin around March 2013, with assistance from successful contractor. External support to Mk 7 secure comms. Helicopters. The UK Ministry of Defence (UK MoD) has a possible requirement for external support to assist the Sea King Project Team in the project management of the Sea King ASaC Mk7 Secure Communications Upgrade, which is an urgent operational requirement (UOR). A contract has been placed with AgustaWestland Limited (AWL) to act as the prime contractor for the design, development, manufacture and installation of the modification onto a number of Sea King ASaC Mk7 aircraft. The external support contractor will assist in management of the UOR project from the critical design review (CDR) until completion of embodiment of the third aircraft and will ensure compliant delivery of the following outputs from the prime UOR contract:— Trial installation (TI) kit delivery. — Trial installation (TI) completion. — All necessary release to service (RTS) clearances. — Proof installation (PI) on the second aircraft. — Embodiment of the third aircraft. — Project and technical assurance to the UK MoD through monthly progress reports to Sea King Project Team (ISTAR capability manager) — Detailed project summary report on completion of contract. In delivering the required outputs the contractor shall undertake, but not be limited to, the following activities:— Maintenance of UK MoD records including the existing Project Record, CMIS, Risk Register, Master Data Assumptions List (MDAL), Committed Spend Records and Forecast of Outturn (FOO) etc. — Management of UK MoD dependencies to the modification programme and all interfaces with the prime contractor and MoD stakeholders. — Management of UK MoD owned risks as they evolve and are recorded in the risk register jointly compiled with AWL. — Resolution of ad hoc queries, technical queries from AWL and general/ad hoc queries from the wider stakeholder community as required. — Monitoring performance of the project to ensure delivery by AWL in accordance with the contracted performance parameters of quality (airworthiness as opposed to functionality assessed by QinetiQ), time and cost. — Monitoring AWL's output to ensure technical 'fitness for purpose' and contract compliance. — Co-ordination of technical meetings (project review meetings, stakeholder working groups etc) as required to meet the needs of the project. — Co-ordinating and ensuring delivery of government furnished assets specified in the prime UOR contract, including identifying and managing any necessary changes as the design evolves, to ensure that the UK MoD's contractual obligations to AWL in this respect are satisfied. The contractor will be required to manage all aspects of the work necessary to deliver the contracted outputs in accordance with MoD policies and procedures including the acquisition operating framework (AOF) and departmental standing instruction for UORs. Any contract which results from this notice will not be for the provision of an individual to work as a member of the Sea King Project Team. Companies to be invited to tender will be selected on the basis of financial stability, company organisation and capability and proven ability to deliver complex projects to tight timescales within budget. Companies that are ineligible will be excluded, as will any company whose inclusion might prejudice fair competition. The contracting authority considers that this contract may be suitable for economic operators that are small or medium enterprises (SMEs). UK-Birmingham: electrical installations for railways
Testing of interface between Pantograph and Overhead Line Equipment on Class 350/1. London Midland is sponsoring development with Siemens to increase the maximum speed of Class 350/1 'Desiro' trains operating in the UK on the West Coast Main Line from 100 mph to 110 mph. Part of this work involves the instrumentation of three Class 350/1 units which will be formed into a 12 car consist in order to measure the contact force of the pantograph on the catenary at speed between 100 mph and 110 mph according to the requirement of British Standard EN 50137 which means: Vertical load at either end of each of the carrier strips. Vertical and longitudinal acceleration measurements at strips and pan head video recording of pantograph activity, the level of arcing of the pantograph and the impact on current collection. The testing is expected to take place over 3, possibly 4 nights on the West Coast Main Line in mid to late October 2011 and will involve liaising closely with London Midland, Network Rail and Siemens.
