Forth replacement crossing: M9 Junction 1a. The design and build contract will comprise the upgrading of Junction 1a on the M9: to provide west facing connections between the M9 and the M9 Spur; improvements to the exisiting east facing slip roads; and widening of the existing M9 between Junction 1a and the River Almond crossing (towards the Newbridge junction). The upgrade will comprise the construction of a new overbridge adjacent to the existing overbridge on the M9, widening of the exisiting bridge over Overton Road and widening of the existing B9080 underbridge on the M9 Spur. The exisiting Swine Burn will be diverted, requiring an additional culvert to be placed under the proposed east bound off slip, together with other associated culvert extensions. Included within the contract will be the provision of an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) and associated infrastructure and the installation, testing and commissioning of ITS equipment. The infrastructure will include overhead gantries, maintenance hardstandings and carriageway traffic detectors. The ITS will be installed between Junction 2 (Philipstoun) and Junction 1 (Newbridge) on the M9 and along the length of the M9 Spur.
