UK-Croydon: train-monitoring system
The provision of the supply and installation of a wireless on train monitor and recorder (OTMR) system. This tender is for the fitting of a wireless OTMR system to the Southern Class 442 fleet. Southern operate 24 class 442 5-car units consisting of 120 vehicles. These units currently run on routes on the Southern network on mainline services between Brighton and Eastbourne to London Bridge and London Victoria. Southern are investigating the feasibility of fitting a wireless OTMR system (current OTMR does not facilitate this) which enables remote downloads of 442 OTMR data for use in a trains automatic performance analysis system (TAPAS). Southern are considering two options identified as lot 1 and lot 2: Lot 1. New wireless OTMR system. — Provision of a wireless OTMR system for installation into each driving coach which shall be capable of recording existing OTMR signals and shall have the same number of channels as is currently fitted, — The new OTMR shall be capable of sending OTMR data (real time and in batches) via a wireless system, to a base station or equivalent for onward distribution to a southern server. Lot 2. Modification of the existing OTMR System. — Provision of a system for installation that interfaces with the existing OTMR (currently a Qtron) and shall be capable of recording existing OTMR signals and shall have the same number of channels as is currently fitted, — The system shall be capable of sending existing OTMR data and the additional signal data (in real time and in batches) via a wireless system, to a base station for onward distribution to a southern server. Part of the scope of this project is to install a system that will enable remote automatic downloading of OTMR data. For TAPAS to be an effective performance, fault finding and potential "reduction in maintenance" tool, additional signals to those already being recorded will be required. This includes signals from driving and non driving coaches e.g. stewards panels and door control equipment. The ability to record motor coach (middle coach 5) stewards panels and door control equipment is a minimum requirement. The key considerations for any chosen system will be downtime for installation, capital cost and ongoing operational costs.
