OJEU12-002 Precision atomic, molecular and optical physics. We invite tenders for a femtosecond optical frequency comb for optical metrology across the visible and near-infrared regions of the spectrum. The system will consist of four integrated components: 1. A fibre-based self-referenced optical frequency comb in the near-infrared. 2. Wavelength extension units. 3. Beat note detection units for referencing external cw lasers to the comb. 4. Locking electronics for the stabilisation of the frequency of an external cw laser. The frequency comb will be stabilised to an external radiofrequency reference (10 MHz) provided by Durham University and the performance of the system will be limited by the reference. The system will be specifically tailored to operate at four wavelengths (980+/-20nm, 1560+/-20nm, 689nm and 638nm) simultaneously. However, flexibility of the system is paramount. The system will therefore have the capability to be easily adapted and expanded (through the addition of further measurement ports) to operate at other wavelengths between 500nm and 2000nm. As this system is a facility that will serve multiple experiments with evolving requirements, the opportunity for training and continued interaction with the vendor will be key. These workstations generally host a number of high end computer graphic and processor intensive software packages, examples of which would include: 3D and 2D Animation packages (3D Studio Max; Maya; Annimo; Flash); graphic design packages (AutoCAD; Photoshop; Illustrator); digital editing packages (Première Pro; Sound Forge; Avid Express). These workstations are also used for mathematical modelling (MathLab; Mathematica) and computer programming.
