The Merseyside Integrated Transport Authority is seeking suitably qualified and experienced companies who wished to be considered in the tender process for the provision of a new tunnel cleaning vehicle for its Queensway and Kingsway tunnel facilities. In ensuring best value for money the Authority is looking at two options for replacing the existing vehicle. The first option is the design, manufacture and supply of a new vehicle for outright purchase by the Authority. The second option would be the provision of a new vehicle for lease by the Authority over a period of up to 10 years. In both cases the vehicle should be flexible for use in both the Authoritiy's tunnel facilities and be capable of cleaning different wall surfaces, finishes and profiles. The primary areas of use will be: — Queensway Tunnel and Dock Branch – approximately 3,5 km long the facility is a 4 lane, single bore tunnel clad with curved wall panels up to a height of 5,1 m from the road deck, — Kingsway Tunnel – approximately 2,5 km long the tunnel consists of a twin bore tunnel with each bore being 2 lanes wide with a vertical wall at low level and a curved tunnel wall up to 5,1 m from the road deck together with a raised walkway. The Authority is looking to consider options for maintenance that provide both best value financially and in maintenance down time. As such, the Authority will look to explore options to undertake maintenance via its in-house resources, via the supplier/agent or via a combination of both. The vehicle should be authorised for use on the UK Highway and meet all UK and EU highway regulations and legislation.
