Middlesbrough College, and Cleveland College of Art and Design have collaboratively tendered for the provision of student transport services. The tender was divided into separate "lots" relevant to each College. Following independent evaluations by both Colleges, a decision has been made to appoint a single transport service operator to undertake the specific service provisions to each College. UK-Sheffield: education and training services
Contract for Sheffield cycle package. Background Information. The South Yorkshire LSTF partnership (SYPTE and the four local authorities) have been successful in bidding for funds from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF). The funding is for investment in transport projects that will improve the performance of the local economy and reduce carbon emissions. Further discussion with the funder indicates that improving local economic performance and creating jobs are their highest priorities. The funding is available for approximately 3,5 years from September 2011, and in total amounts to 4 900 000 GBP to be spent across South Yorkshire. At this time we can not state what projects the other partners will be bringing forward as part of their LSTF allocation. The LSTF programme will help to deliver parts of the South Yorkshire Cycle Action Plan, which can be viewed at: http://www.syltp.org.uk/othersupportingdocuments.aspx. The idea behind this package is that helps to take away some of the barriers to cycling as a means of getting to work / training, whilst at the same time complementing other LSTF and LTP projects. The package contains three distinct elements. Bidders are invited to bid for all or part of the package. The package is to be delivered in a specific area of Sheffield – namely the North East Quadrant. Sheffield City Council and its South Yorkshire partners are committed to increasing the level of cycling within the Sheffield city region, especially for journeys to work. The partners are also committed to making cycling a more realistic and attractive travel option for those seeking employment or accessing training. Levels of cycling in Sheffield are increasing at a rate only surpassed by that of London, albeit from a low base. The group recognises much work is still to be done to make cycling an attractive choice of transport and to that end are developing schemes, individually through LTP allocations and in partnership through the successful South Yorkshire LSTF bid to take away barriers to cycling, for example: Free cycle training from child to adult to family including courses for those without bikes is available. Sheffield is nearing the end of a 2 year project in conjunction with Get Cycling* to get more people cycling to work. This scheme to date has seen close to 700 people take part, nearly 2/3rds car drivers, with a continuation rate of 73 %. Both Doncaster and Sheffield have been running successful BikeIt projects. Rotherham are about to embark on a bike leasing scheme and will be expanding cycle training in line with what has worked in Sheffield, and Barnsley have a number of infrastructure projects ready to be implemented through the LSTF. Lot 1 - element 1 - cycle training. Introduction. This element of the tender aims to address the following customer issues: "I don't know where to ride", "I don't know what sort of bike to get" -" I don't feel confident riding my bike", "I can't ride a bike". To address these issues the project will provide a range of advice and training to individuals and groups as specified. Lot 2 - element 2 - bike leasing. Introduction. This element of the tender aims to tackle the issue of bike ownership and specifically the following customer issues: "is cycling suitable for me?", "how can I try cycling if I don't own a bike?", "I'd like to give cycling a go, but I don't want to make a big cash outlay only to find it's not for me", with the aim of breaking down the barrier of lack of bike ownership. Lot 3 - element 3 - recycle and repair (rnr). Introduction. This element of the tender aims to address the following customer issues. 'I've got a bike in the shed/garage/basement but its not been ridden for years', 'my bike's got something wrong with it and I don't have the time to get it fixed/know how to get it fixed/need someone to look at it', 'I can't get another bike until I get rid of the one I've already got' 'I'd love to cycle but I can't afford a bike and am worried if something goes wrong'. To address these issues the project will provide a service to repair/restore and or recycle bikes within communities. And as a result provide recycled bikes at affordable prices, and reduce the numbers of bikes rusting away or being sent to landfill.
