UK-Salford: construction work for halls of residence
University of Salford - student residences. The University of Salford has endorsed a vision to secure transformational change of its Peel Park campus environment, in order to provide excellent facilities which contribute to delivery of an outstanding experience for its students and other campus users. As part of its overall strategy, the University has identified a requirement for approximately 2 000 bedrooms of new student accommodation to be developed on the campus over two phases; this will ensure that annually the new students intake are guaranteed accommodation in their first year, conveniently located on site near teaching facilities. The first phase comprising approximately 1,300 bedrooms is replacing existing accommodation at Castle Irwell. The University wishes to retain flexibility in terms of the timing of Phase 2 as this accommodation delivery is interlinked with the proposed development of new sports facilities. Outline planning approval has been granted in September 2011 for up to 2 100 new bedrooms including under croft car parking at the University's Peel Park campus. In addition full planning approval has been granted for the carrying out of both public realm improvement works and improvements to existing pedestrian and highway works. It is intended that the selected residences partner will obtain detailed consent for the residences working together with the University. The University's strategic objectives for the project include the ability of the residences partner to work in partnership with the University and to provide an innovative approach to the detailed design and delivery of the new residences. The University anticipates granting a leasehold interest of up to 60 years and is seeking to retain a reversionary interest in the land. The arrangements with the successful bidder should minimise or remove any University funding or guarantee and include the delivery of the public realm improvement works in the project. UK-Bangor: sporting services
Leisure management services procurement. North Down Borough Council (the Council) recently carried out an options appraisal to assess the optimum means of delivering leisure services in the North Down area. This appraisal was prompted by the construction of a major new leisure centre in Bangor incorporating a 50 metre pool which is due to open at the end of 2012 (the Leisure Centre). This facility will include Northern Ireland"s first 50m FINA International Specification swimming pool as well as a diving pool, leisure waters, a fitness suite, a full range of dry facilities and outdoor synthetic pitches. The Council currently manages all leisure facilities and recreation grounds within its ownership. It is currently envisaged that the following facilities will fall within the scope of this contract: Bangor Castle Leisure Centre (until it is replaced by the new Leisure Centre); The new Leisure Centre; Queen"s Leisure Complex, Holywood; Spafield Pitch, Holywood; and The proposed synthetic hockey pitch at Sullivan Upper School, Holywood (together the facilities). The following additional facilities may also form part of the contract scope during its term (at the Council's sole discretion): Bangor Sportsplex; The Council"s recreation grounds; and. Any other leisure facility which might come into the ownership of the Council during the term of the contract (together the Additional Facilities). The Council is also minded to include the services currently provided by the Council's Sports Development Unit as part of this contract, however, such sports development services and the Additional Facilities will be open to consideration as part of the competitive dialogue.
