UK-Glasgow: construction work for tunnels, shafts and subways
Infrastructure asset renewal. Glasgow Subway is operated, and its infrastructure owned, directly by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT). The railway is based at the following depot address, SPT Glasgow Subway, Broomloan Depot, Robert Street, Glasgow G51 3HB, UNITED KINGDOM. The railway has been in existence since 1896 and has been operated by Passenger Transport Executives from 1973 to 1.4.2006, when the successor organisation, Strathclyde Partnership for Transport took over. The railway provides a passenger service in the centre of Glasgow by a self-contained circular route serving fifteen stations. The 10 kilometre route is formed by twin, single bore tunnels, known as the "outer" and "inner" circles where the normal direction of travel is clockwise and anticlockwise respectively. Track gauge is a unique 1220mm, with tunnel and rolling stock dimensions correspondingly non-standard. The surface depot to the west of the railway is linked by ramped branches and turnouts to the totally sub-surface passenger operation. The single bore tunnels have a nominal inside diameter of only 3.35m. They were constructed mainly from mass concrete and brick by 'cut-and-cover' usually following street alignments. Almost one third of the tunnels are formed in segmented cast iron. The cast iron sections include the 2 main under-river crossings of the Clyde. Geological conditions vary considerably. On the north side of the river Clyde that divides the route, the strata consists mainly of carboniferous rocks. On the south side, the tunnels lie mainly in alluvial deposits of silts, sands and gravels. Several sections of the tunnel system are permeable to surrounding ground water requiring the provision of permanent pumps and discharge pipework. One short length near the depot at Govan has an additional, permanent (renewed in 2005) dewatering installation to suppress ground water level and prevent fine solids being carried into the tunnel. Between 1977 and 1980 the railway was closed down and extensively modernised. The present operation is founded on this modernisation and the safety features that were incorporated at that time with some subsequent improvements. As SPT moves towards modernisation of its system it wishes to hear from suitably experienced and qualified suppliers that are in a position to undertake a turnkey package consisting of the coordination, management, re-sourcing, manufacture, supply, installation. construction and performance of SPT's Subway Infrastructure asset upgrade. Hidra Land connection county road 469 - Lot Kvellanstrand - Kunes. The contract work comprises a main contract of approx. 3.2 km submarine tunnel to the island Hidra in Flekkefjord municipality. The project county road 469 Hidra land connection comprises approx. 4 km of main road including connections to the existing road network, of which approx. 3.2 km is a submarine tunnel and approx. 300 m access road to the boat harbour with the accompanying constructions. The road shall be constructed in road class S1 and the tunnel in tunnel class T8.5. Excess matter from the tunnel is to be used to establish a road filling at Kunes. The filling is approx. 250 000 m3 and is to be established at a depth down to 50-60 m. Further excess matter is to be used to establish a filling on the outside of the current ferry quay at Kvellandstrand. An alternative use of this excess matter will be evaluated.
