UK-London: miscellaneous business and business-related services
Accreditation advice & support. Miscellaneous business and business-related services. Miscellaneous business-related services. We require 3 accreditation advisers to provide support and advice, across England, relating to the accreditation scheme for museums and galleries in the UK. This contract is offered in 3 lots relevant to each geographical area of England to be covered: lot 1 West Midlands, South West and London; lot 2 East Midlands, East of England and South East; lot 3 North West, North East and Yorkshire. Please note that the services required are identical for each lot. This support and advice will be targeted for current participants and potential applicants to the scheme for the period 1.4.2012 to 31.3.2013. Arts Council England currently manages the accreditation scheme, working with partner organisations: CyMAL: Museums Archives and Libraries Wales (CyMAL), Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) and Northern Ireland Museums Council (NIMC). The accreditation scheme sets nationally agreed standards for museums in the UK. There are currently just under 1 800 museums participating in the scheme, demonstrating their commitment to managing collections effectively for the enjoyment of all communities. Further information from http://www.artscouncil.org.uk/about-us/museums-and-libraries/museums/accreditation-scheme/. People's expectations of museums, and museums' reliance on volunteer support has increased, environmental and operational challenges continue to grow. Accreditation has recently been developed to keep pace with the times, to help museums develop their resilience through effective forward planning, to balance aspects of collection management and to encourage all museums to be responsive to user needs and expectations. Accreditation enables museums and governing bodies to assess their current performance, and it supports them in planning and developing their services. It helps with: Performance: a quality standard that serves as an authoritative benchmark for assessing performance, rewarding achievement and driving improvement. Profile: it raises awareness and understanding of museums, so building confidence and credibility both within the governing body and among the public. People: it helps museums to improve their focus on meeting users' needs and interests and developing their workforce. Partnerships: it helps museums to examine their services and to encourage joint working within and between organisations. Planning: it helps with forward planning by formalising procedures and policies. Patronage: it demonstrates that the museum has met a national standard, which strengthens applications for public and private funding and gives investors confidence in the organisation. The revised scheme focuses on the issues relevant to museums in the 21st century including collections development. It also puts a greater emphasis on visitors' needs, encouraging museums to develop new and imaginative ways for visitors to interact with collections, and acts as a more focused development tool for museums aiming to improve. The scheme has three aims: — To encourage all museums and galleries to achieve agreed minimum standards in museum management, user services, visitor facilities and collection management, — To foster confidence in museums as bodies which (a) hold collections in trust for society and (b) manage public resources appropriately, — To reinforce a shared ethical basis for all bodies which meet the definition of a 'museum'. Further information regarding Arts Councils museum development programme can be found on the web site: http://www.artscouncil.org.uk/funding/renaissance/museum-development/. Requirements.
