Supply & Instal Vacuum Furnace. A need has been identified for a vacuum furnace with gas quench which shall be tendered in 1 lot; The furnace will be used in the AFRC laboratory for both research purposes and full scale production trials of the manufacture of various aerospace components made from a wide range of materials that are listed in Table 1 below. The currently envisaged maximum and minimum weights of components are 500 and 18 grams. The furnace will be used for post-forging heat treatment of parts: solution heat retreatment (SHT), ageing and quenching. Future heat treatment requirements may require faster and more versatile quenching than is currently used in industry and the equipment must be capable of meeting these needs. The specific technical requirements for the furnace are outlined in Section 4.5.
