DeltaStream prototype - design and supply of submarine cable. TEL is a privately owned technology development company exclusively developing an innovative tidal stream generator, known as DeltaStream. TEL has identified a demonstration test site at Ramsey Sound, Pembrokeshire and is in the process of obtaining the necessary consent licences to install a prototype DeltaStream device in 2011 for a 12 month test period. TEL wishes to appoint a contractor for the design, manufacture and supply of the submarine cable forming part of the prototype DeltaStream system. The prototype DeltaStream unit will be deployed 1.2km offshore in Ramsey Sound, and each of the 3 generators will be independently connected to shore by a power cable. 'Raw' power from the generators at a nominal 450kVA, 3 phase, 11KV will be transmitted by each cable to power conditioning plant located ashore at the point of connection to the Grid. The submarine cable will be laid on the seabed and will not be trenched. In addition to the power conductors, each cable shall carry a fibre optic link for control and monitoring signals, and an auxiliary power cable required to supply power for auxiliary power supplies on the DeltaStream device. This contract will require the supply of 3 off submarine power cables, incorporating fibre optic and auxiliary power supply conductors, each to be terminated on the device and at a shore side termination box. The termination and connection method for the cables on the device will be finalised at a later date. The primary purpose of this PQQ is to establish a tender list for supply only of the cable.
