UK-Cambridge: works for complete or part construction and civil engineering work
RAF Mildenhall Extend Taxiway Alpha. Works for complete or part construction and civil engineering work. The project works are to be undertaken at RAF Mildenhall, Suffolk, United Kingdom. RAF Mildenhall is located between Newmarket and Thetford, approximately 1.5 miles to the north-west of Mildenhall village. Taxiway Alpha runs parallel to the main Runway on the northern side. The proposed extension to Taxiway Alpha will link the existing taxiway to the eastern end of the overrun. The proposed site is currently maintained as soft landscaping and is bounded by the Base perimeter fence to the north and east, the existing overrun to the south and the existing Taxiway Alpha to the west. Aircraft currently utilise the existing Alpha Taxiway to access the eastern Runway threshold in order to commence a take-off run. In addition, aircraft landing at the western Runway threshold are able to exit the Runway and taxi to the appropriate apron. The existing Taxiway Alpha is 23 metres wide with no shoulders and comprises flexible pavement construction. The existing overrun extends to the east of the threshold and is 305 metres long by 61 metres wide. It is of rigid pavement construction and locally widened at the eastern end to aid aircraft turning manoeuvres. A number of aircraft using RAF Mildenhall utilise the overrun during take-off. There is currently no direct access to the end of the overrun therefore pilots taxi to the end, making a 180° turn before commencing take-off. This manoeuvre causes significant delay to operations as it prolongs the interval between take-offs. The primary objective of this project is to construct an extension to Taxiway Alpha, which will provide the direct access required to suit the geometry and manoeuvrability of a number of "design" aircraft. In order to facilitate the objective, the existing perimeter fence and associated security infrastructure, internal perimeter road, running track, utilities and infrastructure will need to be diverted. The project will include significant earthworks and the design of the horizontal and vertical geometry including the tie-ins required at the overrun and the existing Taxiway Alpha. It will also require the design of the pavement construction, aeronautical ground lighting (AGL), drainage solution, and their subsequent construction. The project should meet all relevant USAF design standards with a design life of 30 years. Any disruption to the operations of the Base during construction will be minimised. All roads and taxiway crossings along the access routes used by the Contractor to travel around the Base are to be kept clear and free of debris that may cause damage to aircraft engines. Whilst the overall detailed design of the project will be undertaken following Contract award, the construction work is likely to be split into two phases. At this stage it is anticipated that Phase 1 will comprise the diversion of the Base perimeter fence and associated security infrastructure, internal perimeter road, running track and utilities. Phase 2 will comprise the construction activities required to extend the taxiway and install the associated AGL and drainage. All personnel will need to be security cleared by the MoD prior to undertaking the works. CPV: 45200000. ...
