UK-London: laboratory, optical and precision equipments (excl. glasses)
3 Tesla (T) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner for the Wellcome trust centre for neuroimaging at UCL. This tender is for the procurement of a routine production 3T magnetic resonance system and associated equipment and facilities inc. building work. The system is to be located in the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging (WTCN), Queen Square, London WC1N 3BG, UNITED KINGDOM. The project needs to be implemented as a "turnkey" arrangement. The scanner and associated facilities will provide the WTCN with a reliable imaging platform to perform cutting-edge neuroimaging research. The 2 most important applications are functional MRI (fMRI), mainly but not solely based on the blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) effect, and anatomical imaging for morphometry and assessment of tissue quality in the brain. These applications particularly require the following acquisition methods: gradient-/spin-echo echo-planar imaging, T1-weighted imaging, diffusion (tensor) imaging (DTI), quantitative measurements of MR parameters (e.g. T1, T2, T2*, MT), perfusion imaging (using ASL), susceptibility weighted imaging. Important criteria are high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), high speed and spatial resolution, high geometric accuracy (gradient-linearity), high homogeneity of the static magnetic field (B0) and the RF field (B1). The MR scanner is expected to provide highly stable superior-quality data over long continuous scanning periods at a high duty cycle, as e.g. used in fMRI (>30 mins) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). Maximal gradient performance is required for single-shot high-resolution EPI, a high gradient linearity for undistorted images and a high gradient amplitude and slew rate for DTI. The system should be equipped with at least 32 RF receive channels and a 32-channel head coil for maximal SNR and optimal parallel imaging capabilities. The system should provide all standard MR methods and protocols for brain imaging (e.g., T1w/T2w sequences, fluid suppression, angiography, etc.). Stability and continuity of hardware and software and their development is expected to support longitudinal imaging studies. The system will also be used for multi-modal imaging based on TMS-fMRI and EEG-fMRI. Where any of the functionality is not available in the standard product configuration, the bidder should demonstrate how these requirements will be met (e.g., through "works in progress" packages), and indicate any additional costs or other requirements. The WTCN is a centre of international excellence in neuroimaging research. Thus, a close collaborative partnership between the supplier of the scanner and the centre is expected, to maintain the centre's success and competitiveness. Software packages and licenses required for freely designing, programming, testing and implementing pulse sequences and image reconstruction programs are essential. The new equipment will replace a 3T head-only MRI system, which will need to be decommissioned. The bidder should include quotes for the disposal of the current system and all necessary installation work as part of the proposal. It is expected that the proposal for disposal of the existing system will recover as much of the residual value of this system as possible. The system needs to be installed close to 2 existing 3T whole-body MRI systems and at intermediate distance from an MEG system without any interference between the systems. Factors that will influence our choice are (not necessarily in order of importance): imaging quality, technical specifications (in particular scanner stability, gradient performance/linearity, parallel imaging, image reconstruction capability, network performance), robustness, track record in high-end neuroimaging, price, available sequences, support contract, research agreement, excellent quality assurance of installation and building work. CPV: 38000000. ...
