UK-Stirling: spectrometers
Fourier transform infra-red spectrometer. SEPA Field Chemistry require Fourier Transform Infra-red (FTIR) Spectrometry sampling systems to determine ambient levels of organic compounds, inorganic compounds and combustion gases in support of the Airborne hazards emergency response project and for comparison with Scottish, UK and EU legislative requirements. Four units are required. They must be capable of collecting several real time ambient gas concentrations simultaneously. CPV: 38433000, 38433210. ...

UK-Portsmouth: gas chromatographs
Provision of 2 x gas chromatographs for the Institute Of Naval Medicine. Gas chromatographs. Statement of requirement for GC- MS systems – OES Laboratory, INM. 1.The OES laboratory at the Institute of Naval Medicine has a requirement for 2 gas chromatography systems with mass detectors (GCMS) as described below. These must complement the two existing Turbomass systems with ATD 650 sample introduction which have recently been upgraded. It is expected that these systems will remain in use for 5-7 years so compatibility between these systems and the new systems is a key requirement; 2. The 2 new systems will need to be capable of the following analytical tasks; a. Analysis of volatile organic compounds collected by either pumped or passive sampling onto Tenax, Carbograph and other adsorbents. The laboratory holds stocks of several thousand standard adsorbent tubes supplied by Perkin Elmer and Markes International so any proposed system must be capable of handling this size of tube, b. Analysis of volatile organic compounds in liquid solutions, c. Analysis of volatile compounds in air samples collected using vacuum canisters of the Restek type, d. All analyses are based on target suites of analytes but must be capable of identifying and reporting non-target and unknown compounds that may be found in samples alongside the target compounds. 3. Instrument specification. The systems will need to fulfil the following criteria; a. Both systems are to be identically specified, b. The system will consist of the following parts, i. Automated sample introduction system capable of fulfilling the requirements of 2a – 2c. Typically this will consist of 2 sample introduction systems. —An automated system for thermal desorption of Tenax and similar tubes. This should have a minimum capacity of 50 tubes. Ideally this would also include the sample introduction system for analysis of vacuum canisters. The system must be capable of automated internal standard injection during operation, —The thermal desorption system must be capable of sample recapture with the ability to alter split flows on re-injection, —If vacuum canister analysis cannot be included in the thermal desorption equipment a second sample introduction system for this type of sample will be required. Switching between the 2 systems without disconnecting the thermal desorption equipment would be preferred, —A second sample introduction system based on a programmable split/splitless inlet with electronic pressure control for the introduction of liquid samples. This should have an associated autosampler and sample injection system. ii.Gas chromatograph (GC). The GC should have the following features; —A programmable oven with fast cooling. All internal gas flows managed via electronic pressure control, —A switching system allowing the use of 2 columns switchable between detectors. iii.Detector systems. The following detectors are needed. —A mass selective detector system (MS) capable of EI sample ionisation. This will probably be a quadropole type system and may have a mass pre-filter before the main mass filter and will have the following characteristics, —A usable mass range of 1.0-1200 amu, —Mass stability of +/- 0.1 m/z over a 48 hour period, —Simultaneous total ion data acquisition with selective ion monitoring, —Source temperature range from 50°C to 350°C, —Easy source removal for cleaning, —Customisable internal calibration and mass tuning, —The ability to vent the MS without column removal, —Fast pump down time to allow quantitative use within 2 hours, —A flame ionisation detector for general analysis. No special requirements over and above the usual performance for this type of detector. 4.Software. The 2 current systems are operated via Turbomass software v5.4.2. Ideally the proposed systems would be compatible with this software to minimise the training requirement. The proposed software should have the following characteristics. —Fully automated operation of both the GCMS and the sample introduction systems, —Automated MS tuning, —Capable connection to a LIMS system, —Ability to upload existing methods with minimum editing, —Ability to generate customised reports for non-target data outputtable as a CSV file. 5. Consumables. The systems should be supplied with all necessary consumables including the following a. Air monitoring cold traps for the thermal desorption system, or equivalent. b. Agilent/J&W DB-624 columns or equivalent (30m, 0.32mm ID, 1.8μm film thickness.) c. Spare MS filaments 6. Training. Potential suppliers must include training in the operation and maintenance of the systems for a minimum of 2 operators. CPV: 38432210. ...
