Architectural Pendant Systems for a Paediatric Intensive Care Environment. Miscellaneous medical devices and products. Birmingham Children's Hospital is extending its Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) capacity by building an additional 11 PICU beds. This expansion will take place within an existing ward immediately adjacent to the current PICU on the first floor of the main hospital building. Building work is planned to start in January 2012. The 11 extra PICU bed spaces will each need an architectural pendant system. The pendant system needs to be flexible to support the varied work patient population in the intensive care unit. The bed spaces are used to care for children ranging from newborns to adult sized adolescents. Our patients are frequently ventilated, are often on multiple intravenous infusions and have invasive haemodynamic monitoring. Our patients may also require extracorporeal life support, high frequency oscillatory ventilation or continuous veno-venous haemofiltration. The pendant system should be able to support these modalities of care. Electricity. gas and data services will be required to be contained within the pendant system with standard UK outlets for these services. It should be noted that the pendants will be installed in existing buildings, most of which are 130 years old. The structural support will need to be provided by means of new steel beams spanning between existing walls or steel stanchions, or possibly from existing floors. The preferred solution should be suspended from the ceiling rather than the floor. This is partly for structural considerations and partly for ease of cleaning. CPV: 33190000. ...
